‘Eua Island could be described as a ‘lost world’. There's a dramatic coastline, virgin rainforest, jagged reefs, screeching native parrots, numerous caves and massive sinkholes, gigantic banyan trees and an ancient Tongan stone quarry. Looking for a lost world? This is it!
Where many locals still get around on horseback, you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve stepped back in time. And with ‘Eua being a high island (1,000 feet at it’s highest point), it’s delightfully cooler than the rest of Tonga.
‘Eua is famous for it’s hiking, and it’s hiking with a difference! You can pass by plantations where you can see the locals tilling their fertile ‘Euan soil. And walking through rainforest with random patches of coconut trees, it’s something quite novel for most visitors! There is great bird watching from many of the breathtaking clifftops. There are spectacular natural attractions: a natural land archway, remote beaches enclosed by limestone cliffs with caves, great tracts of rainforest, whale watching from July to November and much, much more!
The people of ‘Eua are friendly and welcoming. Walking down the quiet roads of ‘Eua you won’t be able to pass someone without a big smile and a “Malo e lelei!”. ‘Euan Islanders live a more traditional life, and they are happy to share their way of life and knowledge of their island with you.
You are invited to explore this wonderful unique island!
