Taina's Place - Accomodation
There is an awesome long forest walk with lookouts on Taina's doorstep. The 5 to 7 hour walk takes you through plantation and virgin forest. There is also unqiue birdlife, spectacular views, giantic banyan trees, smoking and scenic caves and MORE! As of April 2010, it is ESSENTIAL to take a guide for the long forest walk as the tracks have become overgrown and are now hard to locate. The mighty Banyan tree and Smoking Cave however are not far from Taina's Place and can be found using Taina's free map
Lokupo Beach is situated on ‘Eua’s East Coast in the National Park. The beach is long and is made up of a fascinating variety of different types of rock. The views from the beach are fantastic. It is really remote. Plan for a full days hike. Start the challenging hike (with steep descent/ascents) early in the day and climb through virgin forest in the National Park. Recommended for genuinely fit people only. A guide would be essential, especially to find the beginning of the track before the descent.
The South-Eastern tip of 'Eua has dramatic coastal scenery, interesting rock formations, soaring seabirds, wild horses, spectacular natural land archway, forest walking. You can see parrots and native pigeons here. It would be a full day trip if you go all the way to Vaiangina stream. Taina's Place has a free map and good directions for visiting this area independently, or you are welcome to hire a guide.
Ha'aluma Beach is approximately 5km directly South from Taina's Place. Ha'aluma is a long, white sandy beach. There are ancient Tongan stone cuts, great views of Kalau island and stunning sunsets. You can swim and snorkel here too but be very wary of the outgoing tide and strong currents in some places. Taina's Place has a free map and good directions for visiting Ha'aluma beach.
Fangalahi Beach is about a 65 minute walk almost directly West from Taina's Place and is best visited at low tide. Fangalahi is a beautiful white beach, with numerous, varied and clearly visible coral fossils in the reef rock. You can snorkel at the doughnut pool and see the pool of tranquility, which has water cascading from one side. The coastline is extraodinarliy jagged and rocky. Taina's Place has a free map and good directions for visiting Fangalahi Beach.
Fangatave Beach lies in the far north-east of ‘Eua. It is a remote beach enclosed by high limestone cliffs. There are dozens of fantastic accessible caves in the cliffs. You can climb down to the beach, explore the caves and take a dip. It is an absolutely awesome place to visit. Day trips to Fangatave can be arranged from Taina’s Place. Some basic climbing ability is required.

The Maxi Disco on ‘Eua, which Taina started, took its name from her pet cat when she lived in Germany! The disco is run on a Friday and Saturday night. You are more than welcome to attend. Just let Jasmin and Fe'ao know you want to go!
Scuba dive in one of the largest underwater 'Cathedral' cave in the South Pacific. 'Eua Island's ‘Cathedral’ lives up to its name, with natural light illuminating a 20 – 30 metre deep underwater amphitheatre teeming with dynamic coral of all the colours of stained glass windows. See lobsters clustered on cave walls and the big fish and sharks that live near the second deepest Trench in the world. Sam Tatafu, owner and operator of Deep Blue Diving, served in the Tongan Navy for 15 years and retired as Lieutenant Commander. Sam and his instructors are PADI qualified and teach PADI diving courses. Ask Jasmin and Fe'ao for more details and to arrange your scuba diving trip.
